The practice offers patients the choice of booking appointments using the internet. You must register for this service with reception by either downloading the attached form by clicking here or by asking for a form at reception. Once registered at the medical centre, you will have to complete a short online registration process before being able to start booking or cancelling appointments online.
You must take the following into consideration when choosing to use the online booking system as there are some limitations to the system at present:
· The online system can only be used to book or cancel appointments with the doctors. As nurses' appointments require differing lengths of time, we are unable to offer an online nurse appointment system at present. However, nurse appointments that have been booked by telephone/in person can be cancelled online.
· The online system can only be used for face to face consultations and not to book telephone appointments. This is because the receptionist needs to ensure that a telephone appointment is booked with the appropriate clinician (doctor, nurse or pharmacist) and that the correct contact number is used. In addition, the computer system doesn't recognise a telephone appointment on the online system. We are working with our suppliers on this.
· If you require a double appointment, the use of a translation service or are unsure if you need anything other than a standard 10 minute appointment with a doctor, please telephone the surgery for an appointment and do not use the online service.
· Each patient can only have 2 appointments (nurse or doctor) showing on the online system at any one time. If for example you have booked 2 or more nurse appointments by telephone, the system will not allow you to book a doctors' appointment online - you will have to telephone the surgery for that. If you were to cancel one of the nurse appointments you could then book an online appointment with a doctor.
We hope that, by following this guidance, the online system will be used appropriately, you will benefit from a system which you can use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and that patients who prefer not to use the online system, or who need to telephone the practice for any of the reasons above, will benefit from our telephone lines being quieter during peak times, especially early mornings.
